The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) held its eighth meeting in the presence of Committee members from relevant authorities in the country. Committee members discussed the preparatory process for the UAE’s fourth national report on the Universal Periodic Review of human rights and follow-up on the implementation of the recommendations accepted by the UAE after the adoption of its third national report at the Human Rights Council in June 2018.
During the meeting, the attendees were briefed on the work of the executive working groups of the National Human Rights Committee to follow up on the preparation of the national report and on the on workshops to be organized in preparation for the fourth national report on human rights. The discussion underscored the importance of the consultative role of the National Human Rights Institution, established in accordance with the Paris Principles, as well as UAE civil society institutions in preparing the national report and contributing to the Universal Periodic Review of human rights.
The National Human Rights Committee was established by the UAE Cabinet in October 2019 and serves as the liaison between all UAE institutions concerned with human rights. Among its duties is supervising follow-up on the national report of the Universal Periodic Review of human rights.
