Abu Dhabi, October 3, 2025 — The Permanent Committee for Human Rights in the United Arab Emirates, in cooperation with the Regional Office for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Beirut, organized a four-day workshop in Abu Dhabi focusing on the role of national mechanisms for implementation, reporting, and follow-up, and on methods for developing national action plans to implement recommendations issued by international human rights mechanisms.
The workshop was inaugurated by Ms. Aisha Al Mansouri, Deputy Director of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership between the Permanent Committee and the OHCHR in promoting the exchange of information, expertise, and best practices in the field of human rights.
Participants representing member entities of the Permanent Committee discussed the structures and capacities of national mechanisms for implementation, reporting, and follow-up. The sessions also reviewed leading practices from the Arab region and around the world in establishing and strengthening such mechanisms.
The workshop further introduced a specialized database designed to monitor the implementation of recommendations issued by international human rights mechanisms. The database serves as a planning and monitoring tool to enhance coordination and facilitate effective reporting. Attendees received practical guidance on accessing, managing, and utilizing the system.
Established by a decision of the UAE Cabinet in 2019, the Permanent Committee for Human Rights — chaired by His Excellency Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the President of the UAE — includes representatives from relevant national authorities. The Committee serves as the country’s national mechanism for implementation, reporting, and follow-up, and acts as the national focal point for coordination with regional and international human rights organizations.
Each year, the Committee supervises a range of workshops and specialized events aimed at raising awareness and strengthening national capacities in the field of human rights.
